Ruminating as We prepare for the December
www.hp-ma.com/ meetup in Cambridge. Next Sunday is the Yule Ball on the 20th, the day after Our FOUR YEAR Anniversary(!) We will be there in full Malfoy getup as usual, looking forward to seeing the Posse and everyone in their finery and robes. This is the time of year I fight powerful urges to hide in My cave until the temperatures rise and the snow melts away, as I am reptilian and have a hard time with the cold, but I have so much in My life right now that makes the fight worthwhile.
This has been a difficult year for so many, and We've had Our share of hardships, but how can I complain. We have this wonderful home and I have My soulmate and Family of choice here with Me, and we live free of most of the tedious obligations that cloud so many lives, We're free to live Our myths, passions, and dreams with others who get Us and share Our creative bent.
Blessings can be deceptive, so many times what appears to be a disappointment is a blessing in disguise. It's hard to walk away from beloved old friends, but you don't always realise just how negative and contagious their miserable energy is and how it's affecting you and your life until they're gone, and with what we've since discovered has been said and done behind our backs, well, they were no friends, and We don't have room in Our lives for such negative relationships. We've since reconnected with a few friends We thought We'd never see again, so hurrah! I've never imagined having the kind of friends We have around Us now. We are truly blessed.
One of Our fiends is moving out of the Manor soon to pursue a wonderful opportunity, and We'll miss her but wish her the best, she deserves it. We do hope that a fiend will take her place, for I'll never again advertise or take in a stranger just to fill a space or pay the bills, this house has been violated enough. That said, it's a big house and very expensive over the winter, so until We have a plan, I won't have a lot to spare, and though it hurts, I'll take a hiatus from riding and a few new costume plans are on the shelf indefinitely. We took a huge financial hit with the sale of Gypsy, and a slew of medical and veterinary expenses at the end of this year, and a lot of the money I've lent others won't be returned, as people have lost houses, jobs, etc, and I am simply not that evil or selfish, I can always make more, and be thankful I was able to help out, so many people have it worse, the economy has been so harsh this year and there are illnesses and deaths, so I am certainly not complaining.
However, please, let's keep Christmas stress free for us all, We ask for no gifts, nor are We buying gifts, We'll be lucky if We get Our cards out on time, and frankly We'd much rather have your
presence than any
presents, whether in person or here online. I like this time of year to be peaceful and not frantic, and really, We have the best gift We could ever want, right here ...
We're about to celebrate 3 & 1/2 Years here at The Manor and yes, Our FOUR YEAR Anniversary! We are truly blessed to have each other and this life together, and I'll write more on this in the coming week as We celebrate these very special anniversaries. You friends We've made and had over these four years, you give Us daily the gifts that money cannot buy, understanding, love, support, friendship, good times, and good humour. It's not always been an easy road, but you who have stood by Us, taken a chance on Us, laughed with Us, and supported and stood by Us, you have made a difference and you have Our friendship, and remember that We have your back if you should need.

Here are some answers to questions posed by some of you clever fiends. I like questions, but not so much rules, so I will, as a Holiday gift to you all, not DEMAND anything, even though I do enjoy demanding things, just feel free to ask some yourself or request some from Me. We're eternally busy, but WILL get to them. Questions from
amaz0n_princess:
1-
Favorite costume? I will always come back to the original Lucius Malfoy CoS costume. I knew that Draco was coming over with his custom Draco robes and costumes and I wanted something that would do Us proud. Stills from CoS were studied in great close up detail, serious research was done, and We decided to go with posher fabric, as We'd be seen in person, close up, without the benefit of film trickery. The robes turned out perfect, and We've been making little upgrades to the costume ever since.
2-
What is heaven to you? Eternity with my soulmate Draco, in a world much like the one depicted in the film
What Dreams May Come, where all of our wishes and dreams become our reality, our infinity. I don't think we can conceive of all that heaven IS while under this earthly veil, but I do know that I don't want to come back once we are home. it's wonderful here in so many ways, but home is home.
3-
Ideal day? There are so many possibilities here, though they all involve Draco. I'd love to spend every day awaking in a beach home in a mild climate with warm clean ocean water. I'd start with a beach ride astride a lovely Shire steed, followed by some surfing or a good workout, then I'd wake Draco and We'd tackle some costume work or crafts/artwork, with maybe a costume gathering/photo shoot in a beautiful setting with fiends later. We'd go for a swim as the sun begins to set, check the area for Our sea toidle friends, followed by an evening spent creating and/or performing Our music. We'd fall asleep to the sound and scent of the sea just outside our deck. Heaven on earth.
4-
Why snakes? I've always been fascinated with snakes, they are so perfectly self sufficient from birth, so streamlined and well designed, so beautiful. Like me, they've long been judged to be evil and there are so many myths about them, yet they are so much more, such a misunderstood creature. Just like dogs and other creatures, bad handling results in bad behaviour. Since I started keeping them, I've learned so much about them that contradicts what I've heard and read, they are wonderful pets, so easy to maintain. Once they learn to trust that we are not going to eat them and they become accustomed to us, they tame down and relax and they can be downright friendly, contrary to everything I've read.
5-
Why the Malfoys? It started with the physical resemblance, I was being called Malfoy before I even got into the Potterverse, about the time Chamber of Secrets came out on film, due to the hair and general resemblance and manner. Acting the role was so natural, I grew up in a similar family actually, and hey, it's incredibly fun playing the villain, and apparently we do it frightfully well; at the first cons before people came to know Us, We were scaring people out of elevators and rumours were flying, and to some degree, it's still happening, but seriously, it's the ultimate flattery ;-)
Questions from
nuclearsugars 1)
What's one life-changing/altering experience you've had? Meeting Draco on a Deatheater LJ community has changed my life more than anything I've done before. I've done a LOT and have had many adventures in this life, but finding Draco was like the merging of two souls into one, mind blowing in so many ways, and embodied in the tangible and undeniable bond which has elicited - and always will elicit - such strong reactions from friends, strangers, and enemies alike.
2)
Name one literary figure or historical figure your identify with and why? I have to say LESTAT, from the Ricean Vampire Chronicles. Obvious resemblance aside, this character has been linked to Me for over 20 years now, with some eerie similarities in our lives and personalities, and the Vampire Chronicles affected me very strongly thus. Those first three books I can read over and over, still reading more into the works each time I read them, which is the mark, in my not so humble opinion, of a great piece of work.
3)
How did you first get into Harry Potter fandom? I was too much the literary snob to read a children's series, until the film
Chamber of Secrets came out and I was getting called Malfoy all the time, due to the hair and general imperiousness ;-)
Curiosity got the better of Me - I read and I was hooked, I loved the world created by Rowling, but it wasn't until I met Draco on a Live Journal Deatheater community that I really got into it, with intense RP and writing, and when He came over to attend LUMOS with Me, it was the beginning of a wonderful thing that's just grown in such wonderful ways. Now here we are, four years later, surrounded by this amazing array of friends, most of them from the HP world, and I cannot imagine life without Draco, or the Potterverse for that matter. The Potterverse has been very good to Us.
4)
How many pet animals do you have? And what breeds? We just sold our Friesian cross horse, horse, but currently have two cats, a Ragdoll and a Maine Coon, and five snakes (a Peruvian Longicauda Boa, Hypo Sonoran Desert Boa, Black Milksnake, and a very gay pair of five foot long Leucistic Rat Snakes, pearly white with grey eyes, and in sheer defiance of snakey nature, very much attached). There are also two Gerbils We just had to adopt because whose colouring is identical to our cats. We've got one beautiful Beta Fish named Peacock who lives with a Snail named Gary.
5)
What's a favourite event from your childhood? Or barring that, adulthood? Horseback treks cross country, epic 1 or 2 week long treks with our horses, we rode horses much like kids use bicycles today, a totally different world, and I loved our school choir trips to different places, as we were a choir/music boarding school much like Hogwarts is for magic.
